10 February 2010 - 04/10

RPA has committed that by the end of February 2010, all farmers who sent in map changes within the requested timescales (28 days from the date on their Mapping Update Map pack covering letter) will have been sent their confirmatory maps.

The majority of farmers who sent in map changes after the 28 day period will also receive confirmatory maps by the end of February. RPA is aiming to send the remaining confirmatory maps before or with the SPS 2010 application forms.

Farmers who have been subject to a physical or remote sensing inspection will receive their new maps when the inspection findings have been agreed, processed and updated on the Rural Land Register (RLR). RPA is sending these out during February and March.

As in previous years, it is important for all farmers to check that the information that has been pre-printed on their SPS 2010 application form is accurate and reflects the current state of their holding(s). Where the information is incorrect they should make the appropriate changes on their application form.

Simon Lunniss, RLR Policy Manager said:
“The forms will contain new information this year. I can’t stress enough how important it is for farmers to read the guidance carefully and to check the information on their forms against their new maps.
“If they spot any inaccuracies on their SPS form they should amend the form and submit in the normal way.”

Notes to editors:

  • By mid January 2010, of the 107,000 farmers who had received their updated maps, some 50,000 had asked RPA to make changes, with 75% being within the specified timescale. 57,000 new maps have been recorded by RPA as having no changes.
  • RPA is an executive agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). It is the single paying agency responsible for CAP schemes in England and is responsible for administering the Single Payment Scheme. Other key services include carrying out rural inspections and livestock tracing.
