Beef and Veal

This section is responsible for the issue of licences for imports of beef (including all import quotas other than ITQ). They will also issue export licences where circumstances allow.
The section also administers the GATT/THIN SKIRT/HILTON import quotas together with a number of smaller import quotas.
The ITQ section issues licences from an annual quota of frozen beef and administers the end use controls of the import. All beef imported under this quota must be processed, either in to ready meals such as lasagne, or cooked as joints to be sold in Supermarket delicatessen counters.
The section is also responsible for plant approvals.

There is information available on Defra's web site about the animal and public health import and export requirements for all animal products. Not meeting the animal health requirements can result in your product being seized and re-exported or destroyed at your own expense.
