  • There are two licensing systems in place which are applicable to the importation of sheepmeat and goatmeat

    These are the Standard Import Regime and the Title II B Non-Country-Specific Quota scheme.

    Standard Import Regime

    The Standard Import Regime covers basic imports and is not controlled by a quota however, there is a high import duty rate. The regime applies to products which fall under the following CN Codes:

    02109011

    02109019

    16029072

    16029076

    Title II B Non-Country-Specific Quota scheme

    This scheme enables the trade to apply for an import licence for sheepmeat and goatmeat products on a quarterly basis from certain countries of origin.

    The application periods for this scheme are the first ten days of January, April, July and September.

    Animal and public health requirements

    There is information available on Defra's web site about the animal and public health import and export requirements for all animal products. Not meeting the animal health requirements can result in your product being seized and re-exported or destroyed at your own expense.
