01/03/07 - Additional Sugar Support
Additional Sugar Support is incorporated in the Single Payment Scheme from the 2006 scheme year.
As announced in September 2006 for the 2006 scheme year, this support is being added entirely to entitlements held by sugar beet growers, based on their contracted tonnage held for the 2005/06 marketing year (this excludes leased-in tonnage).
Eligible sugar producers will have received a Sugar Information Statement from RPA in November 2006 which provided details of their 2005/06 contracted tonnage.
Producers who applied under the hardship and National Reserve provisions should receive a letter from us by the end of March notifying them of the outcome of their application.
Additionally, letters are being sent where contract-holders requested that the support related to their sugar contract be added to entitlements held by a related business.
Payment rate per tonne
The payment rate, to be used to calculate the Additional Sugar Support due to eligible producers for the 2006 scheme year, has been set as €9.71per tonne.
Additional Sugar Support Payments
Eligible farmers will receive this payment and associated statement within eight weeks of receiving the full or final balance of their SPS payment (not partial payment). Eligible farmers will receive a separate letter providing a breakdown of their payment.
