SPS 2009 payments update
Figures published today (2 July 2010) show that as at 30 June some 104,900 farmers have received an SPS payment from RPA. This means £1.87 billion has been paid.
Just under 300 claims are still to be paid and some of these are complex cases involving probate, business partnership changes and domestic issues. It is likely that work on these claims may reveal that some will not be eligible for payment. Claims which are confirmed will be paid as soon as possible and RPA is contacting those farmers affected.
RPA met its EU target to pay 95.238% of the SPS 2009 fund value by end of June 2010 during week commencing 19 April 2010. This was reached ten weeks ahead of the target date.

Notes to editors
1. A further 2,300 of the remaining claims have resulted in no payment being due. This situation arises where, for example, customers hold entitlements for the wrong area type, have submitted duplicate claim forms or will receive payments from the Devolved Administrations.
2. The estimated total claimant population is 107,500.
3. RPA is an executive agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). It is the single paying agency responsible for CAP schemes in England and is responsible for administering the Single Payment Scheme. Other key services include carrying out rural inspections and livestock tracing.
