Information from HM Revenue And Customs - Entry Query Messages (AQIE Transactions) Via CHIEF (Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight)

Introduction
1. This notice is to remind you of the procedure for responding to queries raised by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) with you or your agent by means of an Entry Query (AQIE transaction) via CHIEF.
Procedure
2. Where HMRC raises queries with you or your agent by means of an Entry Query (AQIE transaction) via CHIEF, you must respond via CHIEF with either an AQIE or null amendment AEXD, even if you have replied to HMRC by a phone call, e-mail or fax. Failure to do so will prevent your refund claim from being automatically forwarded to the RPA by CHIEF.

3. Further information about this CHIEF facility can be found in the Common Entry Trader User Guide, USM 239, in Chapter 7 AQIE - Entry Query. This is available on the HMRC website (www.hmrc.gov.uk); enter USM 239 in the search box, then select 'Common entry trader user guide'.

4. If you should experience any technical problems relating to this matter, please contact HMRC at chiefoperations@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk.
