25/02/08 - Private Storage Aid: Butter - Notice to Traders No: 12/08
1. This notice is to inform you of a
new season in respect of butter being offered into private storage under the terms and conditions laid down in Commission Regulation (EC) No. 105/2008. In accordance with Commission Regulation (EC) No. 157/2008 of 21 February 2008 a scheme providing fixed rates of aid for private storage of butter of Community origin has been opened.
2. You may submit your applications from 1 March 2008 in accordance with Commission Regulation (EC) No. 105/2008.
3. The Commission has published the main provisions of the scheme in the Official Journal of the European Community. The provisions are as follows:
- aid will be payable, subject to the contract, for the storage of butter produced in accordance with Commission Regulation (EC) No 1255/1999. The rates of aid (in euros) to be granted can be found in the annex to this notice;
- aid will be paid for storage for any period of not less than 90 days and not greater than 210 days. The Commission may however reduce or extend the storage periods if the market situation so requires;
- the minimum quantity per contract will be fixed at 1 tonne; and
- the store used is approved by Agency inspectors as being fit to use as part of the scheme.
4. As the national quality class has been abolished, butter for private storage aid will no longer be subject to a sensory evaluation.
5. A quality certificate will be supplied to consignors wishing to store butter under private storage arrangements in another Member State. This will be supplied providing the butter meets the standards outlined in the Agency’s explanatory leaflet IM(L)19.
6. Butter destined for storage under the scheme in another Member State will not be sampled and graded. This is now to be done in the Member state of storage. Applicants wishing to store such butter in another Member State should send a request to the Newcastle office stating:
- name and address of applicant;
- name and address of manufacturing creamery;
- creamery approval number;
- Lot number;
- number of cartons;
- individual carton numbers;
- weight of lot (metric);

- date(s) of manufacture of each part of the lot;
- code for the dates (if used); and

Faxed requests must be clearly headed 'Private Storage Butter - Export'.
