Information from HM Revenue And Customs - Additional Facility on Customs Declarations Regarding Attendance at Physical Examination, Substitution Checks and Conformity Checks
Introduction
1. This notice is to inform you of a change to information from HM Revenue and Customs on an additional facility on customs declarations regarding attendance at physical examinations, substitution checks and conformity checks.
Background
2. Notice to Traders 04/08 advised you of the introduction of Additional Information (AI) code CAP10, which allows you to enter an Additional Information Statement in Box 44 of your customs declaration stating that you do not wish to attend a CAP import or export examination or substitution check.
New Procedure
3. In view of the introduction of visual conformity checks from 1 April 2008, outlined in Notice to Traders 15/08 (paragraph 18), the wording of AI code CAP10 has been amended to include reference to these checks. The revised wording, which will appear in the July version of the Integrated Tariff, is:

'If selected for a physical examination, a substitution check or a conformity check, I do not wish to attend or have a sample taken on my behalf. Please proceed with the examination and notify me it has taken place, and if a sample has been taken.'
