Other standards, for many products not regulated by Specific Marketing Standards are available from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and these may be used instead of the General Marketing Standard. EU Regulation 543/2011, states at Article 3.1 that where the holder is able to show that the produce is in conformity with any applicable standard adopted by the UNECE the product shall be considered as conforming to the General Marketing Standard.
