Information on setting up as a supplier of Official Ear Tags for Cattle
The ETAS Support Team deal with the administration process for companies wishing to set up as suppliers of Official Ear Tags for Cattle.
Ear tags receive official approval after following a procedure of tests including initial testing by a Defra vet followed by welfare tests in the field and then laboratory testing to “PAS 44” standards. The following documents may be useful as background information to the process:-
"Code of Practice"
All tag suppliers are expected to sign up to this.
"Notes for Guidance"
This gives more detailed information about the process of applying for approval for your tags
"Welfare Assessment Notes"
This explains about the welfare tests which tags must undergo
"Cattle Tagging Practice"
This is a note of best practice for tagging cattle, and should be supplied by you to all your future customers
"Application form to register as an ear tag supplier"
This is a formal registration of interest and will help us start the ball rolling for you
The standard to which tags must be tested in the laboratory
Ear Tag Feedback Form
We would expect you to make this available to your future customers
For further information and formal application to become a tag supplier, including forms for access to the bovine ETAS system and technical user guides, please contact the BCMS Helpline and ask for the ETAS Support Team.
